1-year-old dies when forklift driver reverses and backs over toddler, Indiana cops say
A 1-year-old child was killed when a 34-year-old forklift driver reversed his machine and backed over the toddler, Indiana deputies told news outlets.
The toddler died in Nappanee shortly after the accident on Sept. 4, the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release, WANE reported.
Deputies said the forklift operator did not know the child was behind the forklift when he put it in reverse, WPTA reported.
McClatchy News is not naming the driver because he has not been charged with a crime.
First responders attempted life-saving measures for several minutes, but the child died at the scene, deputies told Times Union Online. The child’s identity has not been released.
Nappanee is about a 145-mile drive northeast from Indianapolis.
