Mom uses Taser to punish 11-year-old and 6-year-old kids, Pennsylvania cops say
A Pennsylvania mother is accused of using a Taser to punish her three children, police said.
The 49-year-old DuBois woman was charged July 1 with three counts of endangering the welfare of children, three counts of recklessly endangering another person, and six counts of simple assault, according to court records.
Attorney information for the woman was unavailable. McClatchy News is not naming the woman to protect the identities of her kids.
After Children and Youth Services received a report in April of suspected child abuse involving a Taser, Sandy Township police were called to the family’s home to remove the children, WJAC reported, citing court records.
An 11-year-old told police her mother repeatedly used a Taser to discipline her, the station reported.
The girl also said she was forced to sleep on the floor without clothes as a form of punishment, the outlet reported.
She told authorities she did not feel safe with either parent, WTAJ reported, citing a criminal complaint.
Another child, a 6-year-old, told authorities they had witnessed the 11-year-old being Tased, according to the outlet.
The mother told authorities the children were only Tased once because they asked what it did, and she demonstrated, the Courier Express and WTAJ reported.
The woman was released on $50,000 bail, court records show. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 19.
DuBois is about a 100-mile drive northeast from Pittsburgh.
