16-year-old son accused of stabbing mom to death, Illinois police say
An Illinois teenager has been arrested after authorities said he stabbed his mother to death.
Police were called to a Springfield home June 29 for reports of a stabbing, according to WCIA.
When police arrived, they found a woman, later identified as 51-year-old Misty Long, with multiple stab wounds, police told the news outlet.
Long was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead, according to the Sangamon County Coroner’s Office. Autopsy findings showed she died from “multiple sharp force injuries,” the coroner said.
Long’s 16-year-old son, Jonathan Long, was arrested and charged as an adult with first-degree murder, court records show.
On July 1, Jonathan Long appeared in court. Sangamon County Assistant State’s Attorney Kendra Hansel said he stabbed Misty Long over 100 times in her face, neck, abdomen, arms and legs, The Springfield State Journal-Register reported.
At the time of the assault, three 911 calls were made, the news outlet reported. During one of the calls, Misty Long was heard pleading with her son “to stop stabbing her. As she was screaming, Mr. Long is still stabbing her,” Hansel said, according to The Springfield State Journal-Register.
In addition to murder, Jonathan Long is also charged with aggravated domestic battery, according to court records.
An attorney for Jonathan Long was not listed in court records.
