Man strangled woman he accused of cheating until she passed out, feds say
An Oklahoma man was sentenced after officials said he seriously assaulted a woman he accused of cheating on him.
Jesse Wayne Caughron, 38, was sentenced to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty to assault of an intimate dating partner by strangling, suffocating, and attempting to strangle and suffocate, according to a June 10 news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma.
Officials said Caughron assaulted his partner after he accused her of cheating on him.
“He then suffocated her with a pillow, hit her repeatedly, and strangled her until she lost consciousness, causing a life-threatening injury,” officials said in the release.
When the woman got a restraining order on Caughron, he began sending harassing and threatening messages to her, officials said. He then tried to stop her from testifying against him, according to the attorney’s office.
Officials said Caughron was arrested but later released on bond. While out on bond, officials said he broke a no-contact order with the victim.
