An 11-year-old was seriously injured after he took his grandparents’ car for a late night drive and crashed it, Ohio police and news outlets reported.

He took the car for a joyride without permission around 10:30 p.m. on June 6, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol and Fox 8.

While driving down a dark stretch of road near Sugarcreek, the boy veered off the road, striking a ditch and a culvert, according to the crash report.

The car flipped several times before coming to a rest, officials said. Officers did not know how fast the car was traveling.

Officials believe the boy was seriously injured, according to the report, and he was taken to a children’s hospital.

Sugarcreek is about a 100-mile drive northeast from Columbus.
