Terrified cats found ‘crammed’ in crates outside Iowa shelter. They get second chance
When shelter staff arrived to work on June 5, they noticed pet crates left on their doorstep.
They found nine terrified cats “crammed” inside two crates, the Kings Harvest Pet Rescue, a no-kill shelter in Davenport, Iowa, said in a Facebook post.
“This is not the proper way to bring cats to a shelter and to leave them in the rain in the wee hours of the morning,” they said in the post. “These poor babies are traumatized!”
Though staff members are working to get the new additions ready for adoption, the shelter said they’re struggling to make space for the abandoned cats.
Due to an abundance of kittens this time of year, cages are full, the shelter said. There’s also a long wait list for animals that need to be spayed and neutered.
“An acceptable way would’ve been to call us so we could figure out the best way to help,” according to the Facebook post.
When cages are full, Kings Harvest says they will still help people find homes for pets that they can no longer care for.
“We will do everything we can to help with the situation,” they said in the post.
Davenport is about a 55-mile drive southwest of Iowa City.
