Mom pushes her 2-year-old to safety before being fatally hit at race, Michigan cops say
A woman was hit and killed during a race in Michigan, but not before she pushed her 2-year-old daughter to safety, officials told news outlets.
The 33-year-old, later identified as Kadie Price, was watching a race with her family at the Silver Lake State Park Sand Dunes at about 11:40 a.m. Sunday, May 26, the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office told WZZM.
They were gathered outside their vehicle when a driver in a 1980 Jeep CJ lost control and veered off the course toward Price’s family, officials told the station.
She quickly pushed her daughter out of harm’s way, but she couldn’t save herself, investigators told WOOD.
Officials say the Jeep slammed into the family’s vehicle, which then struck Price, according to the station. She died from her injuries, despite life saving efforts by witnesses and first responders, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators say the Jeep lost control as it was accelerating, WPBN reported.
Officials did not say if the 64-year-old driver, who has not been publicly identified, suffered any injuries, according to the outlet.
An investigation is underway, deputies told the station.
Silver Lake State Park is a roughly 80-mile drive northwest from Grand Rapids.
