18-year-old shot and killed near high school hours after he graduates, Ohio cops say

An 18-year-old described by loved ones as a gentle soul was killed in a shooting hours after he graduated from high school, Ohio police say.

Lamon Wiggins, identified by the Cincinnati Police Department as the victim in the weekend shooting, had graduated from Withrow High School on May 17, according to a GoFundMe.

The shooting happened near the high school at 3:30 a.m. on May 18, hours after the graduation ceremony concluded, police said. Around 50 people had gathered at the school’s baseball field, according to WKRC and The Cincinnati Enquirer.

It’s unclear what led to the gunfire, but a Ring camera from a nearby residence captured the sound of dozens of gunshots in less than 30 seconds, WCPO reported.

Wiggins was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Loved ones called the shooting “senseless and reckless.”

“Lamon is his mother’s only child and was loved so much by his family and friends,” according to the GoFundMe. “He was gentle and a soul to remember as one would say. To know him is to love him, and that we do.”

Police have not identified a suspect or announced any arrests.

In a statement to multiple outlets, Cincinnati Public Schools said its “sympathy and support” was with Wiggins’ family, friends and the Withrow High School community.
