Teen kidnaps girlfriend at work, then shoots at her family trying to stop him, cops say
A 17-year-old is accused of kidnapping his girlfriend from her work and shooting at her family as they tried to stop him, Oregon police say.
Someone called 911 just after 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, saying the teen had taken his girlfriend “from her workplace against her will,” the Gresham Police Department said in an April 11 Facebook post.
As the girlfriend’s family tried to stop the teenager from taking her, he shot at them before driving away, according to police.
Police said they began to track the teen as he drove out of the city.
When a Multnomah County Sheriff’s deputy found his car in a rural area near Dodge Park, they tried to stop him, but the teenager drove away, police said.
The teen then led authorities on a nearly 6-mile chase until he drove off the road and fled into a wooded area, police said.
Police said they used an unmanned aircraft to watch the suspect while a SWAT team approached and arrested the boy.
The teenager is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping, police said.
The girlfriend was taken to a “hospital for minor injuries,” police said.
Gresham is about a 15-mile drive east from Portland.
