Officer finds a feathery surprise in man’s hat on Utah road — and helps with rescue
An officer was met with a feathery surprise when he approached a man who had been fumbling with his beanie in the middle of a Utah road.
The Salt Lake City officer watched the man and thought the situation appeared “unusual” Thursday, Dec. 28, the police department said in a news release.
He continued to watch the man and saw him drop his hat, police said.
“The hat appeared to hit the ground with more force than a person would expect from a winter hat dropping,” police said in the news release.
That’s when the officer decided to approach him.
When he got closer, the man said “eagle” as he pointed at his hat, police said. The officer realized there was a bird inside the hat.
The man told the officer he saw the feathered creature get hit by a car, so he tried to help it.
Then the officer took the bird with him, keeping it warm inside the hat, and took it to an animal care facility in the Salt Lake Valley where workers said the bird was a hawk.
