Lottery player drops his coffee and his shoes fly off after discovering jackpot win
Meticulous research paid off for a 38-year-old lottery player who discovered he won a Michigan jackpot while enjoying his morning coffee.
The lottery player, from Wayne County, told Michigan Lottery officials he regularly plays the Fantasy 5 game and picks his own numbers through research. He purchased his ticket at a store in Riverview, a southwest suburb of Detroit.
On Oct. 29, he learned he finally hit the jackpot.
“The morning after the (Oct. 28) drawing, I was in my garage having coffee and scanned the ticket with the lottery app on my phone,” he told lottery officials in a Nov. 17 news release.
He soon realized he won the game’s top prize of $472,295 by matching all five numbers — 3-4-9-19-39.
“When I saw the message and confetti on the screen, I dropped my coffee and went running into the house so fast that my shoes came off,” the man said.
Odds of winning the jackpot in the Fantasy 5 game are 1-in-575,757.
The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, said he plans on investing in his retirement with his winnings.
