Rescued dog found covered in fleas. Now Florida pup has new home — and ‘important job’
A rescued puppy was found covered in fleas — and now, the Florida dog has an “important job” at his new home, an animal shelter said.
Tanner the pup eventually will undergo training so he can help a member of his family who has epilepsy, a brain disorder that makes people have seizures.
“It will be Tanner’s job to turn him on his side and to alert his parents if his brother has a seizure in his sleep!” the Humane Society of Tampa Bay wrote in a Nov. 14 Facebook post. “They are going to be best friends.”
Tanner was adopted after his luck took a turn. The young dog was part of a group of puppies that arrived at the shelter “covered in fleas and severely anemic,” officials said.
In October, the shelter shared photos of puppies it said had the “worst flea infestation” the animal organization had ever seen. The dogs, which had spent time under a shed, were “so thirsty they were trying to drink the water from their bath.”
Though the details from that post were similar to Tanner’s situation, the humane society on Nov. 15 didn’t immediately tell McClatchy News whether he was in that group of dogs.
