Son wins big SC jackpot — and plans to share with mom. She already knows what to buy
A son is splitting his South Carolina lottery prize with his mom — and she already knows what she wants to get.
“I’m buying a car,” the woman told the S.C. Education Lottery.
But the woman’s son isn’t sure how he wants to spend his share of the $300,000 prize. The two got richer after the son stopped at a Walmart Fuel Station near the coast in Murrells Inlet, lottery officials wrote in an Oct. 26 news release.
The man hit the jackpot on a $10 scratch-off ticket for the Multiplier Surge game. When he discovered how much it was worth, he had his mom take a look, officials said.
“He’s really lucky,” the mother told lottery officials. “I was shocked and happy when he showed me the ticket.”
The woman’s son, who wasn’t identified in the news release, beat 1-in-900,000 odds to win the big prize. He kept $208,500 after taxes, lottery spokesperson Holli Armstrong told McClatchy News in an email.
Murrells Inlet is roughly 15 miles south of Myrtle Beach.
It’s not the first time a lottery winner has been generous. Another lucky South Carolina lottery player gave his mom some of his winnings after the two traveled to claim the prize, McClatchy News reported in August.
