A Pennsylvania firefighter is dead after officials say he crashed into a tree while responding to an emergency call.

Firefighters Colin Reedy, 25, and Emily Gindele, 24, were responding to an alarm call Friday, Oct. 20, during a “heavy downpour” when their vehicle went off road and struck a tree, according to a Facebook post from the West Whiteland Fire Company.

Reedy died of his injuries at the scene, and Gindele was taken to a hospital where she’s currently listed in critical but stable condition, authorities said.

The couple had been in a relationship for five years and became firefighters earlier in the year, according to Reedy’s obituary.

“The two of them did everything together. They started and he loved it. He was just very proud of the activity and he just wanted to support his community because that’s Colin at the core,” Reedy’s mom, Tracy Reedy, told WPVI.

Colin Reedy, of Exton, was adopted by the Reedys from Ukraine when he was a baby, WPVI reported.

“Everybody loved Colin. He was hardworking, funny, dedicated,” his dad, Brian Reedy, told the news outlet.

Many people have taken to social media to share thoughts and grief after learning of Colin Reedy’s death.

“Over the years Colin grew into a beautiful young man his mom and dad are so proud of,” one person wrote on Facebook.

“Colin was the kindest, most generous, self-sacrificing, happiest, strongest, and one of the most positive souls I have ever met,” one family member wrote on Facebook.

Exton is about 30 miles northwest of Philadelphia.
