Man became ‘entangled’ in tractor while towing brush cutter in rural SC, coroner says
A woman searching for her 76-year-old husband in rural South Carolina found him in a horrific circumstance — out in the yard “entangled in” his tractor, officials say.
Gary Junior Moss died at the scene, according to Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler.
It happened around 4:20 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, near Blacksburg, about 40 miles southwest of Charlotte, North Carolina.
Investigators suspect Moss was thrown from his tractor while towing a Bush Hog, a landscaping attachment used to cut dense growth.
“Moss was mowing grass on his property with his tractor ... when he drove down an embankment and was ejected,” Fowler said in a news release.
“The tractor continued toward Moss trapping him between it and the Bush Hog attachment. Moss’ wife found her husband entangled in the Ford 1620 tractor and called 9-1-1 for help.”
An autopsy is scheduled to determine his cause of death, Fowler said.
The incident occurred at a home in the 200 block of Pleasant Ridge Road, south of Blacksburg.
