A man in Colorado experienced some “beginner’s luck” when he won millions with a scratch-off ticket, lottery officials said.

The lucky player of Thornton won the top prize of $3 million with a Monopoly 500X instant ticket just 11 days after starting to play lottery games, according to a July 31 news release by the Colorado Lottery.

The self-employed man “just started screaming” when he realized he’d won millions, the release said.

Although he didn’t specify exactly what he’ll use the money toward, he said he plans to “enjoy his life,” officials said.

Thornton is about 10 miles north of Denver.

Many people can gamble or play games of chance without harm. However, for some, gambling is an addiction that can ruin lives and families.

If you or a loved one shows signs of gambling addiction, you can seek help by calling the national gambling hotline at 1-800-522-4700 or visiting the National Council on Problem Gambling website.
