Man shoved into oncoming train dies in ‘unprovoked’ attack, California police say

Update: San Diego police arrested Ryan Michael Rukstelis, 26, on suspicion of murder Tuesday, Jan. 4, in the death of Martin Andara, 68, KGTV reported.

A man in his 60s died after being shoved off a trolley platform into the path of an oncoming freight train in Old Town San Diego, California police said.

The Saturday, Jan. 1, attack was “without provocation,” police told KSWB.

Police responding to the trolley station about 6:15 a.m. found the badly injured man, who died at the scene, KNSD reported.

Onlookers told police two men were walking across the platform after exiting a trolley when one shoved the other into the path of a passing freight train, KGTV reported.

The man hit the side of the train, KNSD reported. Police are seeking the man accused in the attack, who boarded another trolley and left the area.

“We’re very hopeful that we will have a resolution to this case,” Lt. Andra Brown told KSWB. Police have security video of the incident.
