Woman gets trapped in deep mud for hours after trying to push stuck boat, Utah cops say

A 19-year-old was stuck in several feet of mud and water for hours after trying to free her stuck boat, Utah police said.

The woman and her father were on Provo Bay on Nov. 22 when their boat got stuck in 3 feet of mud, the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said.

She stepped out of the boat to push it forward, hoping to free it from the mud. Instead, the woman sank into the mud and became trapped for two hours, rescue officials said.

Officials told KTVX the woman was stuck in mud up to her waist.

“After 2+ hours (rescuers) found her and freed her from the mud,” the sheriff’s office said on Twitter. “Suffering from hypothermia, she was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.”

Officials did not say if the woman had any other injuries.

Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon told KSTU that several people have been rescued from similar situations in that area.

The rescues can become complicated because rescuers have to avoid getting stuck in the area as well, according to the station.
