Teen steps out of moving pickup and is run over by trailer it was pulling, SC cops say
Authorities are investigating a traffic accident that killed an 18-year-old woman in Upstate South Carolina this week.
Sydney Harvey died Monday after police say she stepped out of a moving pickup truck and was struck by the utility trailer it was hauling, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the Montebello community, just outside Greenville.
The accident left Harvey with “multiple blunt force injuries,” WHNS reported, citing the Greenville County coroner’s office. She was rushed to Prisma Health where she later died.
The teen’s mother, Charity Reynolds, said she’s distraught over the loss of her daughter.
“She had a heart of gold and only saw the good in people, she didn’t see the bad in anybody,” Reynolds told WSPA. “That’s what I want people to remember her by.”
Harvey worked as a cashier and had a love of animals and the outdoors, according to an online obituary.
Childhood friend Krista Barker said the two grew up together and loved doing each other’s hair. She told WSPA she’s struggling to make sense of the accident.
“I mean, nobody knew she would just be gone the next day,” Barker said, according to the news station. “I’m just trying to figure out why, because it doesn’t make sense at all.”
Harvey’s funeral will take place Saturday at Gordon Mortuary Chapel in Blacksburg.
