Bear looking for food breaks into Colorado home and lounges on couch, video shows

A bear has been euthanized after entering a Colorado Springs, Colorado, home and being filmed on video sitting on the couch.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife said in a news release that on Sunday morning, CPW officers found a 150-pound bear sitting in a home. The resident was cooking bacon inside when the bear ripped open the patio screen door and sat on the couch, according to the release. The person living there left the home when she saw the bear coming inside.

The bear could have been lured by cat food on the resident’s patio and a bird feeder outside, according to the release.

The bear found its way back to a neighborhood after previously being relocated from a Northeast neighborhood, the release said. It was euthanized “to protect residents from potentially dangerous attacks and additional property damage.”

“It’s always a hard day when we have to euthanize a bear,” District Wildlife Manager Cassidy English said in the statement. “Our mission is to protect wildlife. When bears become habituated to people, they can become a threat to public safety. This is why it is so important that our community works together to keep wildlife wild.”
