Air quality alert issued for part of southern SLO County

Dust plumes blowing in the Oceano Dunes and Nipomo Mesa areas are impacting air quality for community members.

The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control District warned blowing dust and sand can be expected from 1 to 7 p.m. on Monday with the dust peak lasting from 2 to 6 p.m., according to a news release.

Infants, children and adults with respiratory sensitivites are advised to stay indoors as much as possible and set any air condition or ventilation systems to recirculation until the dust has dissipated. The public is advised to reschedule any outdoor activities until a time when there is no visible dust, the release said.

Air quality can be monitored at slocleanair.org/air-quality/air-forecasting-map.php.
