Cal Poly plans to award diplomas to 6,312 students during six commencement ceremonies in San Luis Obispo this weekend.
“At Cal Poly, everything is ultimately about student success, and this year’s graduates have succeeded brilliantly,” Cal Poly President Jeffrey D. Armstrong said in a university news release ahead of the weekend. “They are prepared to show the world what they can do.”
On Saturday, the university held separate ceremonies in Spanos Stadium for the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences; the College of Architecture and Environmental Design and the College of Engineering.
Ceremonies for the Orfalea College of Business, Philip and Christina College of Science and Mathematics and College of Liberal Arts were set for Sunday.
An estimated 50,000 guests were expected across all the ceremonies, the university said.

The College of Engineering was expected to give out the most degrees with a total of 2,023 during its ceremony Saturday. That included 1,644 undergraduate degrees and 379 graduate degrees.
According to the release, Cal Poly also announced it was awarding three honorary degrees during the ceremonies: one to award-winning leader and educator Bradford Parkinson, another to Cal Poly alumnus and Athletics Hall of Fame member Ted Tollner and a final one to winery owner Hansjörg Wyss.
Parkinson’s honorary doctor of science degree comes from the College of Engineering, Tollner’s honorary doctor of humane letters comes from the Philip and Christina Bailey College of Science and Mathematics, and Wyss’s honorary doctor of science degree comes from the Orfalea College of Business.
