GoFundMe raises more than $49K in memory of Cal Poly student who died of brain aneurysm
A GoFundMe page has been started for Sofia Padoan, the Cal Poly student who died of an apparent brain aneurysm Friday night.
The fundraiser, which raised over $49,000 as of Wednesday afternoon, was raising money for her memorial and a scholarship fund in her name.
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the devastating news of the loss of our beloved Sofia Padoan,” read the GoFundMe page. “Sofia brought so much joy, love and light into our lives and her passing has left a profound void that words cannot express.”
Padoan, a junior studying nutrition, served as the president of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and a member of the Italian Cultural Association.
According to the GoFundMe page, Padoan loved music, the beach, sharks, crocheting and lacrosse and was remembered by loved ones as a “shining light” who “radiated happiness.”
“In the wake of this profound loss, we invite you to join us in establishing a memorial fund in Sofia’s honor,” the page read. “This fund will serve as a lasting tribute to her memory, ensuring that she is remembered for the vibrant spirit, kindness and love she shared with all who were fortunate enough to know her. “
The GoFundMe was also seeking to alleviate the financial burden on Padoan’s family. Padoan died Friday shortly after having dinner with her family, the university said at the time.
Friends and community members can read comments left by friends and family members or share their own memories of Padoan on Instagram at instagram.com/p/C3zWYeUuNL9/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==.
“Sofia touched all of us and we are all better for having known her,” the page read.
