Cal Poly has been named one of the best colleges for surfers by education research website StartClass.com.

The site considered schools with proximity to nearby surf spots and their popularity among surfers, and took inspiration from Surfer Magazine and Surfline. It settled on 21 schools ideal for surfing, and then ranked them based on their Smart Rating scores, which are based on financial affordability, career readiness, admissions selectivity, expert opinion and academic excellence. The maximum score a college can have is 100. Cal Poly’s score is 93.

Unsurprisingly, 13 of the 21 schools are located in California. Rhode Island is the only other state with more than one college on the list.
