Cuesta College hosting child abuse prevention academy

Cuesta College will host the eighth annual Child Abuse Prevention Academy on Friday in partnership with the Center for Family Strengthening and the community college’s Early Childhood Education Department.

The academy will give students, community members and providers a chance to learn about the medical manifestations of childhood trauma, how trauma impacts the developing child, treatment practices for children who suffer from trauma, and the county child welfare and differential response systems, according to information provided by Cuesta College about the event.

The academy will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon in room 5401 on the San Luis Obispo campus and at the North County campus in N5006. Free parking is available on the San Luis Obispo campus in lot 2.

Preregistration is required; Cuesta students should call 546-3263; community members and providers can call 543-6216 or email support@cfsslo.org. Participants will receive a certificate of participation.
