Cal Poly students recognized by Legislature

Twenty-one Cal Poly students were recognized for a wide variety of achievements by state lawmakers on the floors of the Assembly and Senate in Sacramento last week.

The group was introduced by Assembyman Katcho Achadjian, R-San Luis Obispo, and Senate majority leader Bill Monning, D-Carmel, whose districts include the university.

All but three of the students hail from California. Two are county natives.

Their feats including winning national awards in marketing and dairy competitions; creating a philanthropic bone marrow mini-documentary; and earning second place in a national competition on re-packaging consumer products.

Elaine Cohen, of Paso Robles, was part of a four-member team that took second at the 2015 Institute of Packaging Professionals AmeriStar Packaging Awards Competition for an all-in-one contact lens case and solution bottle.

Kenna Lewis of San Luis Obispo, was champion of the 2015 California Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Collegiate Discussion Meet held last spring, advancing to the national competition in Kansas City, Mo.
