Pop star will visit Paso Robles schools to talk about bullying

Singer-songwriter Meredith O’Connor will visit two Paso Robles middle schools Friday to speak about bullying.

O’Connor, whose songs include “Celebrity,” “The Game” and “Just the Thing,” will talk about fighting bullying through music and share her experiences as a victim of bullying with students at assemblies at Flamson and Lewis middle schools, according to a news release from the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District.

She’s shared her story at schools at more than 50 cities around the world.

“I love going into schools because I get the chance to make it really personal,” O’Conner said in the news release.

According to O’Connor’s website, the pop star, actress and model “suffered terrible bullying and isolation throughout most of her school years,” developing an anxiety disorder in middle school as a result.

“Meredith recovered by focusing on her strengths,” the site said.

For more information about O’Connor’s visit, contact district public information officer Martha Clayton at 769-1000, ext. 30114, or mmclayton@pasoschools.org.
