San Luis Coastal trustee elected president of state association

Chris Ungar, a trustee with the San Luis Coastal Unified School District, has been elected to serve as 2016 president of the California School Boards Association. The association represents more than 6 million students and 5,000 school board members in the state, according to a news release.

Ungar has served on the San Luis Coastal school board for 15 years, including serving four times as president. He also has served on the state association’s board of directors since 2007.

Ungar was previously the executive director of special education for the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education for 10 years and worked as a speech pathologist for the county office from 1989 to 2004. He has served on the board of directors of the Tri-Counties Education Coalition and the San Luis Obispo County School Boards Association. Ungar is president of the Project Surf Camp board and is a member of the California and American Speech-Language-Hearing associations, according to the release.
