Students and volunteers decorate the 2015 Tournament of Roses Parade float during last year’s Deco Week in Pasadena. Cal Poly is seeking volunteers to help decorate this year’s entry in Pasadena from Dec. 26-30.

Volunteers are needed Dec. 26-30 to help decorate Cal Poly’s float for the Tournament of Roses Parade held in Pasadena on New Year’s Day.

Decorating will take place in four-hour shifts each day between 8:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. (8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Dec. 30) at the Brookside Pavilion, located on the south side of the Rose Bowl Stadium. All ages are welcome.

The float is the 68th annual parade collaboration between Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal Poly Pomona. Participants will work with float builders, university alumni and community members to create “Sweet Shenanigans,” the only student-made float among the 44 parade entries.

This year’s project features 5-foot to 8-foot, colorful gummy bears enjoying a snow day in an ice cream wonderland of waffle cone mountains, a frozen lake and a lollipop forest. The float will be adorned with 400,000 flowers, as well as seeds, tree bark, seaweed and crushed nutshells — all applied by hand.

Volunteers can sign up online at: http://www.eventbrite.com/e/cal-poly-rose-float-decorations-week-1227-registration-18804604077. The team is suggesting a $1 donation per person participating in the decorations. For more details, visit http://www.asi.calpoly.edu/university_union/rose_float.
