Cal Poly has announced the expected launch of a new Master of Science in Business Analytics program.
The program still must be approved by the California State University Chancellor’s Office, but it’s anticipated to be open next fall.
The program will focus on data analysis as a tool for making key business decisions, emphasizing industry projects, statistical modeling and communications skills.
Coordinators say the profession of data analytics is expected to grow 45 percent by 2018, according to a Bureau of Labor Statistics study.

Cal Poly consulted with data-analytics professionals from blue chip companies including Google, Oracle, Walmart, and Cisco to design the program. The plan is for students to work on a project that incorporates real world problems regularly faced by companies.
Graduates are expected to be able to work in various industries, including consulting, retail, financial services, marketing, health care, technology and sports.
