Coastal Christian School will start classes at its new Pismo Beach campus Tuesday.

The K-12 private school will serve nearly 200 students at 1005 N. Oak Park Blvd., according to a news release.

The school has operated on the campus of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church on Farroll Avenue in Arroyo Grande since 1990. The last classes were held there Friday, Aug. 29.

School officials have been hoping to develop their own campus for decades.

“The move to our own campus will allow us to expand our services to the Five Cities community and to begin to pursue the dreams that the school has had for years,” Principal Dave Rehnberg said in the release.

Coastal Christian School was founded in 1971 as Central Coast Christian Academy. The school received the roughly 27-acre property on Oak Park Boulevard as a donation in 1977 but had not been able to build for various reasons.

Several years ago, the school was included in a plan called Los Robles del Mar, which also proposed 252 single-family homes and 60 senior citizen homes on land outside Pismo Beach city limits.

The San Luis Obispo Local Agency Formation Commission denied Pismo Beach’s request to annex the land. Coastal Christian School then sought and received county permission for the school using water from an onsite well.
