Nipomo High School opens new Wellness Center to provide counseling, support for students
Nipomo High School has opened a new Wellness Center to provide support services for its students.
The center, which debuted on Thursday, offers individual and group counseling along with outreach and educational programs, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo County Behavioral Health Department.
The center was funded by a $30,000 grant from the San Luis Obispo County Friday Night Live Partnership, a youth development and substance abuse prevention program with chapters at middle and high schools across the county.
“A huge part of Friday Night Live is wellness and mental health,” Nipomo High School Friday Night Live chapter president Adriana Santana said. “We are so excited to bring these topics to life through the Wellness Center at Nipomo High.”
The school unveiled the center with a ribbon cutting on Thursday morning, then held a celebratory lunch with a resource fair and tours of the facility.
Transitions Mental Health Association, Lumina Alliance and Community Action Partnership of San Luis Obispo shared information at the resource fair.
“Nipomo Friday Night Live looks forward to hosting fun lunch-time activities to encourage their peers to learn more about stress management, healthy relationships, and mindfulness,” Santana said in the news release.
