How much are teachers and other school employees paid in San Luis Obispo County?
Full-time staffers at SLO County public school districts made an average of roughly $77,400 per year, according to the latest salary data available from the California Department of Education.
The agency recently released its Selected Certificated Salaries and Related Statistics report for the 2022–23 school year, looking at salaries and benefits for full-time-equivalent school employees across the state.
Every California school district and county office of education were given the opportunity to fill out optional forms sharing that information in May.
“Participation in this survey is voluntary and thus there is less than 100% reporting of all school districts and county offices,” the state education department said.
In California, public school teachers were paid an average of $95,160 in the 2022-23 school year, up 7.5% from the previous school year, The Modesto Bee reported.

Which SLO County school district pays teachers the most?
San Luis Coastal Unified School District paid its full-time employees the most out of any SLO County district in the 2022-23 school year, according to the state Department of Education’s report.
Teachers and other workers at San Luis Coastal campuses earned an average annual salary of $85,706.
Lucia Mar Unified School District, SLO County’s largest district, paid its full-time employees $81,828 per year on average, and Paso Robles Joint Unified School District employees made an average of $81,029 a year.
Full-time employees at Pleasant Valley Joint Union Elementary School District were the lowest paid in the county, earning $61,415 a year on average.
Meanwhile, the San Luis Obispo County Office of Education paid its full-time workers an average annual salary of $77,838.

What were the highest salaries for local school employees?
San Luis Coastal also led the way in terms of highest pay among county districts, paying full-time employees a peak annual salary of $110,038 for the 2022-23 school year, according to the California Department of Education’s report.
Following close behind were the Cayucos Elementary School District, with a top annual salary of $110,214, and Lucia Mar, which paid its workers a top salary of $109,789 per year.
The most the SLO County Office of Education paid its staffers was $109,473 a year.

What were the lowest salaries for school district staffers?
At the other end of the scale, Pleasant Valley had the lowest annual salary of any school district in SLO County in 2022-23, the state report said.
Full-time employees in the county’s smallest school district earned as little as $40,079 per year.
Elsewhere in the county, the lowest annual salaries for school district staffers included $43,097 at Templeton Unified and $45,786 at Coast Unified.
