SLO County school district looking for new board member after resignation
A San Luis Obispo County school district is looking for a new board member to fill a vacancy left by a mid-term resignation.
Kathryn Eisendrath Rogers resigned from the San Luis Coastal Unified School District’s Board of Education on Dec. 31 despite her term ending in 2024.
She resigned after serving 14 years on the school board to spend more time with her family and on other interests, fellow board member Ellen Sheffer said.
“Kathryn was a much beloved trustee; one of the most dedicated, enthusiastic and deeply caring people I know,” Sheffer said. “She will be greatly missed ... and leaves behind really big shoes to fill.”
On Jan. 12, the school board voted to appoint a new member to replace Eisendrath Rogers instead of holding a special election.
The district is now seeking qualified candidates to apply for the appointment. Those interested must apply by Feb. 3 at 4:30 p.m.
Candidates who apply should live in trustee Area 7, which generally encompasses the neighborhoods in San Luis Obispo east of California Boulevard and Johnson Avenue to Bishop Street.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old, a citizen of California and resident of San Luis Obispo, as well as a registered voter.
Qualified candidates will be interviewed Feb. 22 by the sitting board members, and a provisional appointment will be made on that same day.
