Paso Robles school district has a plan for graduation. Here’s when it could happen
Paso Robles public school leaders on Monday announced potential dates for graduation ceremonies — which could take place as early as June or as late as December, depending on local coronavirus regulations.
Paso Robles school campuses are closed indefinitely, and officials maintain hope that classrooms will be able to open before the end of the year.
San Luis Coastal Unified School District is the only school system in San Luis Obispo County that’s announced in-person classes will not resume this school year.
Paso Robles is the first local district to lay out detailed contingency plans for commencement. It has set at least three potential dates for the high school’s graduation, depending on local social distancing restrictions, according to a post on its Facebook page.
The ceremonies would all be held at War Memorial Stadium, and each graduate would be allowed a maximum of eight tickets. Graduations will be live-streamed, as well.
- If in-person classes and group gatherings can resume before May 11, the district plans to hold the high school graduation ceremony on June 5 at 6 p.m.
- If group gathering limitations are lifted between May 11 and June 12, the district will hold the high school graduation ceremony on July 11 at 7 p.m.
- If group gatherings are allowed between June 13 and July 10, the high school graduation ceremony will be held on Aug. 8 at 7 p.m.
District leaders are also making backup plans for ceremonies in September or during winter break, should group gathering limitations remain in place through the summer.
Graduation and promotion ceremonies for other district schools would also be held around those same dates.
“Although we wish our world could go back to ‘normal’ and our end-of-year celebrations would go on as originally planned, we feel it is essential to plan for our students and families and commit dates to this very important milestone,” the post reads. “We are so proud of our students, family, and community, and we know, together we can get through these challenging times. Thank you in advance for your support.”
