After months of preparations, Christ Classical School has opened its doors in San Luis Obispo and classes are underway.

The private, nondenominational Christian school located at 880 Laureate Lane, off O’Connor Way near Foothill Boulevard, offers curriculum in English, math, history, science, Bible studies, foreign language (Spanish in grades K-2 and Latin in grades 3-6), performing arts and physical education.

The annual cost to enroll is $6,500, and financial aid is available. Currently, 13 students are enrolled in first through fifth grade. The academic year began Aug. 25.

Ken Trotter, head of the school, said Christ Classical is now a grade K-6 program with a goal of growing into a K-12. It will add seventh grade next year.

“The goal of a Christ Classical education is not the simple transfer of information, but the teaching and training of a soul for worship,” Trotter said.

The school is committed to a student-teacher ratio of 15-1 as the program continues to grow, Trotter said.

The property is the former home of the Laureate School, which closed in July 2015.
