A 22-year-old Nipomo man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of molesting a girl under the age of 10, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office.

Angel Manuel Ponce has been charged with one count of sexual intercourse or sodomy with a victim under 10 years old.

The Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the alleged abuse Wednesday.

Detectives with the sheriff’s Sexual Assault Unit responded and, based on their investigation, determined that Ponce had repeatedly molested the victim over the course of several years, police said.

Detectives believe Ponce knew the child and had numerous contacts with the child over the course of several years. Ponce was arrested in his Nipomo home.

As of Friday afternoon, Ponce remained in custody in County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

The Sheriff’s Office is seeking help to identify any other potential victims in this case. Anyone with information is asked to call 805-781-4500.
