Angel Rene Torres, 38, was arrested Saturday, May 21, 2016, on suspicion of attempted sexual assault, sexual battery, false imprisonment, residential burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of felony probation.

A man was taken into custody Saturday morning after allegedly sexually battering a Grover Beach woman.

Angel Rene Torres, 38, allegedly entered a home on the 1500 block of La Selva Avenue at 11:17 a.m. without permission from the resident. He then allegedly attempted to sexually assault and batter a female victim, and he tried to prevent her from fleeing, police said.

The presence of another resident caused Torres to flee on foot into his home down the street. After Grover Beach police located Torres, Arroyo Grande police helped set up a perimeter around his house.

Officers conducted a probation search, which turned up several drug paraphernalia items, and the victim identified Torres, police said.

The San Luis Obispo County Probation Department placed a hold on Torres and he was arrested on suspicion of attempted sexual assault, sexual battery, false imprisonment, residential burglary, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of felony probation.

Torres was being held in the San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
