A Santa Maria man on Tuesday night was arrested on suspicion of drug possession in Pismo Beach.

Gabriel Ray Fuentes, 36, was taken into custody after the San Luis Obispo Sheriff’s Gang Task Force received information from the Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Special Investigations Bureau about a gang member potentially selling drugs in the Pismo Beach area, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

Fuentes was seen at the Edgewater Inn, where the task force conducted a probation compliance check. During a search of Fuentes’ room, officers allegedly found $6,000 worth of methamphetamine, $2,500 worth of heroin, narcotics packaging equipment, digital scales, metal knuckles, a replica handgun and $3,300 in cash.

Fuentes was booked into the San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, along with an outstanding warrant. He was held in lieu of $70,000 bail but was no longer in custody as of Wednesday evening, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Cipolla said.
