South County roadside fruit and vegetable vendors should be on the lookout for a potential thief.

A man has been stealing money from roadside produce stands on Huasna Road in rural Arroyo Grande, according to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office. Vendors who sell their items during the day sometimes leave cash boxes in their stands at night, which the thief used to his advantage, Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Cipolla said.

The thief has made off with hundreds of dollars from one stand, which has been burglarized multiple times, Cipolla said. Other nearby stands have also been hit, but the thefts haven’t been reported, he said.

The thief is described as a 25- to 35-year-old male who’s believed to be driving a silver Toyota quad-cab truck. His license plate number is thought to begin with “6M6.”

Vendors are encouraged to refrain from leaving any valuable property in their stands after closing.

Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 781-4550 and refer to case number 1602-01625.
