Two armed robbers at large after holdup at Paso Robles gas station
Police are searching for two men who robbed a Paso Robles gas station and held the clerk at gunpoint Friday night, according to police Sgt. Clint Wenter.
About 9:30 p.m., two men entered the convenience store at Spirit gas station at 1637 Spring St. One of the men was carrying what appeared to be a rifle or a shotgun, and the other was holding a black backpack, Wenter said.
The men found the clerk at the back of the store and ordered her to the front to open the register, Wenter said. The man carrying the backpack reached into the register and grabbed the money, police say. An initial report indicates that an estimated $400 in cash was stolen.
The men were in and out of the store in about a minute, Wenter said. They fled running west on 17th Street, police say.
No one was injured during the incident.
Both robbers were wearing bulky clothing and black gloves and ski-style masks. One was wearing a camouflage jacket; the other had on a dark blue jacket. The two men were about 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall and possibly weighed 135 to 150 pounds, Wenter said.
