Two 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old were arrested early Monday morning after a resident reportedly chased away a suspicious person caught prowling around his car.

At about 3:34 a.m., a resident of Angello Terrace in Grover Beach reported to police that he chased away a man who was prowling around his car, which was parked in his driveway, according to a department news release.

Officers responded to the area and located the three teens near the intersection of North 12th Street and Ritchie Road. After they were detained for questioning, investigators found a vehicle nearby belonging to one of them and containing property reported stolen over the weekend from Arroyo Grande and Pismo Beach, police said.

Brody Cole Gilbert, 18, of Arroyo Grande, was arrested on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. A second 18-year-old was cited on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and released, and the 17-year-old was released to his father. The Tribune does not publish names of minors or people arrested solely on misdemeanor charges.

Police are attempting to reunite the property with its rightful owners. Anyone who had property stolen from a vehicle in the Five Cities area recently is asked to file a report with their local police department.

As of Monday morning, Gilbert remained in custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
