South County internet cafes closed for illegal gambling
Two South County internet cafés have been closed after an investigation by the county Sheriff’s Office found that illegal gambling was going on at them.
The owner of the Cyber Wave Cafe, 1945 Front St., Oceano and the Cyber Wave Internet Café, 505 Orchard Road, Nipomo, agreed to shut the businesses down after the Sheriff’s Office informed them of illegal gambling.
The investigation into the two businesses began after an Oct. 27 town hall meeting held by the Sheriff’s Office in Oceano. During the meeting, several members of the public complained about problems in and around the Oceano business.
County Supervisor Lynn Compton’s office worked with Sheriff’s investigators to research complaints of crime in the parking lot of the business and gambling that was occurring inside. The investigation concluded that the computer gambling happening there was illegal.
