Jurors began deliberating Thursday in the trial of an Atascadero man charged with murder in the shooting death of his neighbor.

Mark Andrews, 51, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to the May 2013 killing of Colleen Barga-Milbury, 52. Attorneys offered closing arguments in the guilt phase of the trial Thursday.

If the jury believes Andrews murdered Barga-Milbury, it will then have to decide in a second phase of the trial whether he was legally insane at the time. Psychiatric experts for both sides are prepared to testify.

Jurors will continue to deliberate Friday morning.
