A man wanted in connection with an assault outside an Arroyo Grande bar in early October was arrested Thursday in Fresno and will be transferred to San Luis Obispo County to face charges.

On Oct. 2, a 38-year-old Arroyo Grande resident suffered a serious head injury after being struck from behind and hitting a concrete sidewalk curb.

An investigation into the incident led police to file an arrest warrant for 36-year-old Oceano resident Ignacio Franco Palomar, whom police said in a news release Friday is a documented criminal street gang member.

Arroyo Grande detectives tracked Palomar to a Fresno neighborhood. With help from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, the Fresno Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service, Palomar was taken into custody.

Arroyo Grande Police Department Sgt. Dan Langstaff said Friday that Palomar will be transferred to San Luis Obispo County Jail after he is booked in Fresno on suspicion of resisting arrest. Locally, he will be held on suspicion of assault resulting in great bodily injury.

Langstaff said that Palomar is a longtime resident of the Five Cities area.

According to Arroyo Grande police, the alleged victim, who is not being identified, remains in critical condition at an undisclosed nearby hospital.

As of Friday morning, Palomar was not listed as in custody at County Jail.
