UPDATE 4:45 p.m. Thursday: The CHP has identified the man killed in Wednesday's hit-and-run incident near Nipomo as Glen Harley Fulton, 48, of Arroyo Grande.

The suspected driver — Michelle Yvonne Hart, 45, of Arroyo Grande — remained in County Jail on Thursday afternoon.

Original story: A hit-and-run near Nipomo left a bicyclist dead Wednesday morning and a suspect in jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The CHP said Wednesday that at about 11:15 a.m. an unidentified male was riding a bicycle south on Los Berros Road south of Pomeroy Road.

A Honda Accord driven by Michelle Yvonne Hart, 45, of Arroyo Grande was also heading south when the front of the Honda allegedly hit the rear of the bicycle, causing the bicyclist to be ejected onto the west shoulder of the road.

The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, suffered fatal head injuries, the CHP said.

Hart allegedly fled the scene but was identified by investigators with the help of witnesses. She was apprehended in Nipomo a short time later and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of felony driving under the influence, felony hit-and-run, gross vehicular manslaughter and driving on a suspended or revoked license.

The CHP said the bicyclist was not carrying identification; his identity was still unknown late Wednesday.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Hart remained in County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
