Squatters found with shotgun, drugs in Grover Beach home, police say
Police officers assisting a code enforcement officer in Grover Beach on Thursday discovered a couple squatting in a home and allegedly in possession of drugs and a sawed-off shotgun.
At about 10 a.m., police were called to assist a code enforcement officer who was preparing to red-tape a residence for habitation on the 400 block of North Third Street when the officer allegedly discovered two people in possession of methamphetamine, heroin and a shotgun with a sawed-off stock.
Glenn Brian Taylor, 32, of Grover Beach was arrested on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine for sale, possessing a gun while also possessing a controlled substance, and being under the influence.
Erin Frances Soqui, 27, of San Miguel was also arrested on suspicion of possession of heroin for sale, possessing a gun while also possessing drugs, and being under the influence.
According to Sgt. Juan Leon, investigators did not know as of Friday if the shotgun was registered or whether a shortened rifle stock itself constituted a crime, though possessing a firearm in the vicinity of illegal narcotics is a felony.
A third person, a Grover Beach resident, was also cited and released at the scene for an unrelated outstanding misdemeanor warrant for theft, Leon said.
As of Friday morning, only Soqui remained in custody in lieu of $20,000 bail, according to jail records.
