Court: Atascadero kidnapping suspect still not competent to stand trial
A woman accused of kidnapping a 4-year-old boy in Atascadero two years ago is still not competent to stand trial, according to a court ruling.
Annette Hale, 54, was charged with kidnapping the boy from an Atascadero homeless shelter Aug. 5, 2011. She was declared mentally incompetent a month later and sent to Patton State Hospital for treatment.
Hale, who appeared in court for a progress report Monday, will appear in court again March 26.
After her arrest, Hale told a judge in a video conference from County Jail that she was a CIA agent who was trying to protect the boy from his mother, because she wasn't his real mother.
