Sheriff’s Office: SLO County man fleeing warrant service prompts helicopter search
A Cambria man wanted on two arrest warrants was taken into custody Saturday after fleeing deputies during a warrant service, prompting a search involving the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office Drone Team and a California Highway Patrol helicopter.
Deputies attempted to serve the warrants about 6:30 p.m. in the 2800 block of Newton Road, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tony Cipolla.
The suspect, Edgar Viveros, had two warrants, including a felony warrant alleging corporal injury to a spouse, Cipolla said.
When deputies approached a pool house on the property where Viveros was believed to be staying, he fled into dense vegetation, Cipolla said.
Deputies established a perimeter, deployed the Sheriff’s Office Drone Team and received assistance from a CHP helicopter.
About an hour later, deputies found Viveros crouched in a creek about 3 feet deep.
He was taken into custody and transported to the San Luis Obispo County Jail, Cipolla said.
As of Thursday, Viveros remained in jail custody on suspicion of charges of obstructing or resisting a public officer, violation of a protective order and felony inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or partner with priors, according to the Sheriff’s Office’s Who’s in Custody website.
