107 guns, meth seized in search of SLO County man’s home, DA’s Office says
A San Luis Obispo County man was charged with seven felonies last week after the Sheriff’s Office allegedly found over a hundred guns, bullets and drugs in his home.
Jacob Cole Clopton, 39, faces charges for possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine — while armed with a loaded, operable firearm and possession of ammunition, as well as five separate counts of possession of a firearm with felony priors, the San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release Thursday.
The SLO County Sheriff’s Office searched Clopton’s residence on Little Morro Creek Road on March 12 and found 107 different firearms — including rifles, shotguns and pistols — in outdoor sheds, a garage safe, a horse barn, his vehicles and the house, the release said.
Deputies also found and seized a “substantial quantity” of bullets, magazines, firearm components and methamphetamine, the release said.
When reached for comment on Friday, Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Tony Cipolla declined to disclose why the department responded to and searched Clopton’s residence.
Clopton was arrested around 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday in Morro Bay, according to the Sheriff’s Office booking log. The DA’s Office filed charges on May 21, nearly a week before he was arrested.
Clopton was previously convicted in November 2024 of resisting an executive officer and unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle — both felonies — in San Luis Obispo County, as well as felony theft of a firearm in Cameron County, Texas, in 2016, according to the release.
The alleged Texas firearm theft counts as a prior serious or violent felony “strike” conviction under the Three Strikes Law, which means his sentence if convicted on the current felony charges could be doubled.
Investigators are asking anyone with information that could assist this investigation and prosecution to contact San Luis Obispo County Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-549-STOP or via the Crime Stoppers website. Tipsters may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward, the release said.
